Despite recent progress, Bangladesh still has one of the highest rates of child marriage worldwide. Over 60% of girls are married by the time they are 18 years old, and 18% by the age of 15. The main factors are poverty and the desire to protect girls from harm, particularly "Eve teasing", aka sexual harassment
